How It Started
Art is not something totally unique to the Denver VOICE and our vendors. Well before relocating into the Santa Fe Art District, many vendors found an opportunity to showcase and be paid for their artistic talents within the Denver VOICE paper.
After the last two years of being surrounded by a wonderful artistic community, many vendors communicated a want and need to have more opportunities for creative expression. With some feedback through vendor surveys, we began collecting donations and purchasing supplies to give these vendors this opportunity.
How It’s Going
Since purchasing supplies, vendors have responded in a majorly positive way. Earlier this year, Lando got his sales license, and with the assistance of our volunteer Daniel Chavez, who is a stellar web designer, Lando now has a website for his art. In the two months since Lando’s website was launched, several art collectors have purchased his work, and others have commissioned additional pieces from him.
Additionally, several of our vendors including Raelene Johnson, John Alexander, and others have already been a part of a featured project at Red Line Contemporary Art Center by Yvens Alex Saintil.
Our Vision
While the Denver VOICE paper program will continue to serve as an incredible job opportunity for individuals facing income or housing instability, we are hoping to strengthen our position as a safe space for these individuals by providing an opportunity to commission art without fear from outside obstacles.
Many of our talented vendors have already seen success through this outlet, and we sincerely hope to link more of these individuals to the artistic community around them. Our goal for this fundraising campaign is to raise $30,000 from the public, which will be utilized to secure a dedicated space, provide art supplies and resources, and facilitate workshops and mentorship programs. We recognize that the impact of our art program will extend far beyond the individuals directly involved, as it will also contribute to the vitality and cultural richness of the Santa Fe Art District, fostering a sense of community and inclusivity.
